Description: Depicts the bronze statue of Abraham Lincoln holding the Emancipation Proclamation, sitting on a granite pedestal decorated with four eagles and garland. Located at East River (i.e. Kelly) and Lemon Hill Drives. Designed by Randolph Rogers in 1871 and was the third bronze memorial of Lincoln to be erected in the United States. Description: Depicts the Memorial Tower connecting the dormitories, constructed 1894-1911 after designs by Cope & Stewardson., Founded as a charity school in 1740 by Benjamin Franklin. Original school buildings located at 4th and Arch Streets, then moved into the Presidential Mansion at 9th and Chestnut Streets in 1802. The mansion was cleared away in 1829 and two larger university buildings were constructed. Title: Proposed stand pipe for Delware Water Works, Water Department, Philada
Description: Architectural drawing showing the front elevation of a stone building with a stand pipe adorning a pyramid hip roof proposed for the Delaware Water Works, formerly the Kensington Water Works. Building includes brick details around the doorway and the five windows. Ornamental details adorn the standpipe. The waterworks, completed in 1852, at the foot of Wood Street (i.e., Susquehanna Avenue) near the Delaware River provided water for the district of Kensington. Also includes an inset depicting an interior section of pipe. Chief Engineer of the Water Department H.P.M. Birkinbine recorded the need for a stand pipe at the Delaware Water Works in his 1858 Annual Report of the Chief Engineer of the Water Works of the City of Philadelphia (published 1859). He publically announced proposals for enlarging the Delaware Water Works, including a stand pipe in 1864. Description: Sheet music cover containing a genre scene, circa the Centennial Exhibition of 1876, showing bicyclists on East River Drive, i.e. Kelly Drive in East Fairmount Park. In the foreground, a man in checkered coat, striped bicycle pants, and a "Deerstalker" cap rides a "High Wheeler" in front of an arch of the New York Connecting Railway Bridge (built 1866-1867) spanning the Schuylkill River. Behind him, two other bicyclists follow and pass a startled horse pulling a buggy being approached by a park guard from across the road. A locomotive travels over the bridge. In the background, the Promontory Rock Tunnel (bored in 1871), the Girard Avenue Bridge (built 1872-1874), and the Centennial Exhibition observation tower, "Iron Tower," on George's Hill in West Fairmount Park are visible.
