Description: Advertisement containing a vignette view captioned "Sine Labore Nihil" and ornate side border details. View shows a druggist working in his laboratory surrounded by equipment, including distilleries, a mortar and pestle, and mason jars. Border details depict floral and bird imagery, including a nest. Title: Hospital slippers for the sick and wounded soldiers of the Union Directions. Cut the lining three-quarters of an inch larger than the outside all round, turn over and stich through, over seam the backs together and sew to the soles--round them out a little to shape the heel, stitch it each side of the seam to the sole flaps which are turned up at the heel. Old material of any color or pattern that will make a warm slipper will answer. ... The patterns and directions furnished gratis by Henry C. Blair, druggist, Southwest corner of Eighth and Walnut Sts., Philadelphia. Persons at a distance will receive them by mail on sending a post office stamp, with their address. Slippers sent to H.C. Blair as above, will be handed over at once to the "Ladies' Aid Society," through which they will be judiciously distributed to the various hospitals over the country

Title: Wetherill's white lead, red lead, chemical glass, drug & dye stuff store. Wetherill & Brother, manufacturer of white lead & red lead litharge chrome yellow & green, oil vitrol, copperas, chemicals Sons of and successors to Samuel Wetherill who established the first white lead manufactory in the United States. Old stand 65 North Front Street east side, three doors south of Arch St. Philadelphia
Description: Advertisement showing the four-story storefront of Wetherwill & Brother (John Price and Dr. William Wetherill) heavily covered in signage on Front Street above Market Street. Signs advertise the "Drug, Paint" & Glass Store," the proprietors - "Druggist & Color Men," and depict the store emblem of an American eagle with a shield atop a barrel, surrounded by apothecary packages, and bordered by the text "Encourage your own Manufactory" and "65 Old Stand." Building also adorned with a railing on the roof. Stacks of barrels, two atop boxes marked "8-10 Glass" and "12-16 Glass," flank the two open entryways (covered in signs) in which the back of a clerk carrying a large box and two male patrons are visible. Decanters fill the display windows, and boxes, barrels, and glassware are stacked near the upper floor windows. A clerk descends into the cellar across from a drayman, in the street, steadying his horse-drawn vehicle loaded with labeled packages. Several more labeled packages line the sidewalk. Materials include opium, linseed oil, shellac, gum opal, sperm oil, myrrh, "dry. w. lead", salad oil, "ol. vit.," "aq. fortis," "bn. indigo," and "ref. camph." Also shows partial views of adjacent businesses, including signs reading "Dru..", "Pai.." and "M..... Whi...", John Price and William Wetherill, were the grandson's of Samuel Wetherill, the founder of the earliest white lead manufactory in America. They assumed management of the business, under the name Wetherill & Brother in 1837 with William handling purchases and John Price superintending the manufacturing branches. Title: R. & G.A. Wright Manufacturers of the celebrated gold medal perfumery and importers of French, English & German druggist & fancy articles, no. 23 South 4th St. Philadelphia
Description: Advertisement containing a large central text panel with a background printed in color in a rainbow style and surrounded by an ornate decorative border. Border contains symbols, allegorical figures, and pictorial details representing the United States and patriotism (the American flag, Liberty, a shield adorned with the banner "E Pluribus Unum," and an eagle); Pennsylvania (a portrait of William Penn and the Pennsylvania state seal); and trade, commerce, and farming (barrels, crates, bundles of goods, a scythe, a hoe, sheaves of wheat, a mast of a sailing ship, and a land/marinescape view with a railroad and "John Fitch" steamboat). Some goods are marked "R & G.A.W." or "R." or "C.R." Border also includes a maternal female figure, attired in Roman garb, holding two children, and wrapped in a banner reading "Love One Another"; medals, some with classical figures and one with the text "Reward for 1849"; a book open to an illustration titled "Chemistry Analysis"; scroll-like ornaments; grape vinery; and floral and botanical details. R. & G. A. Wright, a partnership established about 1845 between Richard and George A. Wright, was a premier Philadelphia perfume manufacturer. The business was noted in the mid-19th century as the largest manufactory of its kind in the United States, England, and France. The Wright partnership relocated to 624 Chestnut Street about 1860.
