Max Zeller's uncle Julius Zeller established the firm in 1856 at 51 Division Street. He removed the firm, the top U.S. importer of foreign herbs and roots, to 37 Bowery in 1885 and Max succeeded him in 1889. Max Zeller retired in 1901 and the firm was purchased by Britt, Loeffler & Weil (former employees of Julius) who relocated the business to 255 Canal Street., P.2011.46.268 completed in manuscript to Dr. H.
