There is a wooden bucket beside the woman. In the background is a lit fireplace and mantle with vases on top of it. Enoch Morgan's Sons Company began manufacturing Sapolio soap in 1869 in New York. Title: Traymore House, Atlantic City, N.J
Description: Illustrated trade card promoting the Traymore hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey and depicting two Japanese women walking in opposite directions. Shows the women, attired in kimonos and holding parasols, walking on the grass. In the right is a partial view of a fence and part of a roof with geometric designs along the side. A tree grows in the background. The Traymore began as a boarding house in Atlantic City in 1879 and expanded to become a large resort hotel. Title: [Frederick A. Rex & Co. trade cards]
Description: Series of illustrated trade cards promoting coffee manufacturer Frederick A. Rex & Co. and depicting a fox leaping to grab grapes in its mouth from a vine running along the top of a tall stone wall. Racist trade card titled "An absorbing subject" and depicting a caricature an African American man lying on top of a barrel and drinking from it with a straw. Shows the barefooted man, portrayed with exaggerated features, and attired in a straw hat, a striped shirt with the sleeves rolled up to the elbows, and patched and torn pants. He lies straddling on top of a wooden barrel and rests his head in his hands. He closes his eyes as he drinks from a straw through a hole in the barrel. The barrel has a label pasted on it and is marked “XXX.” In the foreground, a painter’s palette leans against the front of the barrel. Frederick A. Rex (1850-1916) founded the Frederick A. Rex Company in the 1880s which manufactured coffee and tea. Title: Bicycle glide
Description: Sheet music cover containing a genre scene, circa the Centennial Exhibition of 1876, showing bicyclists on East River Drive, i.e. Kelly Drive in East Fairmount Park. In the foreground, a man in checkered coat, striped bicycle pants, and a "Deerstalker" cap rides a "High Wheeler" in front of an arch of the New York Connecting Railway Bridge (built 1866-1867) spanning the Schuylkill River. Behind him, two other bicyclists follow and pass a startled horse pulling a buggy being approached by a park guard from across the road. A locomotive travels over the bridge. In the background, the Promontory Rock Tunnel (bored in 1871), the Girard Avenue Bridge (built 1872-1874), and the Centennial Exhibition observation tower, "Iron Tower," on George's Hill in West Fairmount Park are visible. Scullers row near a steamboat under the distantly-seen bridge on which a locomotive crosses. Also shows horse-drawn carriages traveling on the drive and on the Girard Avenue Bridge. Title: International Electrical Exhibition march
Description: Sheet music cover containing an exterior view, during the evening, of the temporary main building of the exhibition held under the auspices of the Franklin Institute (September 2 to October 11, 1884) at the 3200 block of Lancaster Avenue. Also shows the adjacent old Pennsylvania Railroad Station used as a display annex. A covered overpass connects the buildings. Light shines through the several windows of the main building adorned with Gothic towers. Visitors walk the grounds of both buildings and horse-drawn buggies and an omnibus travel in the street. Also includes an inset depicting a round electric light bulb. William Deering became the sole owner of a reaper company in 1879 in Plano, Illinois and subsequently moved the business to Chicago, Illinois in 1880. Description: Membership certificate containing patriotic, state, and National Guard iconography. Includes the Pennsylvania coat of arms bordered by American flags; two National Guard members in uniform with one holding a rifle and the other a sword; and the" N.G." insignia surrounded by a pyramid of cannon balls, and cannons, drum, flags, and wagon wheels over the banner with the motto "Non Sibi Sed Patria," i.e. "Not Self but Country."
