Description: Includes billheads, a letterhead, and "Memorandum of Credit" containing ornate typography. Billheads also contain promotional text and lists of medicines that Hall & Ruckel serve as "Proprietors of" and "Agents for," including Van Buskirk's Sozodont and McAllister's All-Healing Ointment. Memorandum also contains a pictorial detail depicting a mortar and pestle. Hall & Ruckel, the partnership between William Henry Hall and John H. Ruckel, was established circa 1843. Ruckel left the firm in 1869 and Hall continued as proprietor until his death in 1893. The firm was sold to C. G. Description: Includes an illustrated billhead and advertisement. Billhead contains image captioned "Resurgam" and showing a phoenix rising from a mortar of flames marked "WP" in a cluster of clouds. Billhead also contains ornamented type and ornamental details. Advertisement depicts an exterior view of the Weeks & Potter four-story storefront. Signage adorns the buildings and merchandise is visible in the first floor display window and in those on the second floor. Building also adorned with a model of a phoenix rising from a mortar of flames and a flag with the name of the firm and mascot. Firm name on flag transposed in image. Advertisement promotes Weeks & Potter's flavoring extracts, home remedies, cologne, olive oil, wines, and toilet articles on verso. Weeks and Potter, the partnership between Andrew G. Weeks and Warren B. Potter established circa 1852 as dealers of patent medicine, began to manufacture their own medicines in the 1860s. Title: [Collection of letterheads and billheads of Wells, Richardson & Co., later Wells & Richardson Co., wholesale druggists, Burlington, Vt. completed to C. N. Williams, Elizabethtown, N.Y.]
Description: Collection includes letterheads and billheads, majority illustrated, dated between June 13, 1873 and September 30, 1886. Illustrations depict three variant exterior views of the firm's storefront on College Street in the 1870s and 1880s. Earlier views also show signage adorning the side of the building and street traffic, including a man pulling a handcart, and horse-drawn carriages and wagons. Later view captioned "125 to 133 College St., Burlington, Vt." shows the two buildings of the firm in front of which pedestrians walk and several horse-drawn wagon and carriages travel in the street. The prints also contain ornamented type and lettering and pictorial details. Items billed with totals ranging for $2.25 to $114.26, include syringes, indigo, spirits oil, plasters, hair brushes, glue, varnish, Down's Elixir, Kedders Pastiles, lime cement, vanilla, and vaseline. Correspondence relates to receipt of, changes to, and charges for shipments, as well as prices of the merchandise. The firm established as Henry & Co. in Waterbury, transferred to Burlington in 1868 and was renamed Wells, Richardson, & Co. in 1872. Henry Askin, was built in 1867 on hundreds of acres of land along the Lancaster Pike and the Pennsylvania Railroad in Wayne, Pa. The residence contained eighty rooms, was powered with gas retorts, and received water from a reservoir erected on a neighboring hill. The estate also sustained a green house; conservatory; farm; a public lecture hall, library, and place of worship; as well as landscaped lawns and flower gardens. In 1880, Askin sold the property to Philadelphia editor George Childs and banker Anthony J. Drexel for development into the Wayne Estates. The Louella residence was later used as a summer resort hotel, school for girls, and apartments.

Description: Group portrait of George Washington, his wife Martha, and his two step-grandchildren gathered around a cloth-covered table. A seated George Washington, attired in civilian clothing, rests one arm on the table and the other on the shoulder of his step-grandson and namesake who stands next to a globe, which shows "America." His step-granddaughter, Nelly, stands next to a seated Martha on the other side of the table. Both are pointing at "North America, United States" on a large map unfurled on the table. William Lee, an African American man enslaved by Washington who worked as his valet including during the Revolutionary War, stands in the right background. He is attired in a white cravat and a black jacket and tucks his left hand into his jacket. Description: Trade catalog containing an ornate front and back cover and two specimen pages of script promoting Thomas Hunter, former partner in Hunter & Duval (active 1869-1874). Front cover contains central vignette showing a woman with two cherubic figures seated on filigree. The woman writes on a lithographic stone and the figures hold a banner reading "Duval & Hunter" and a printing ink roller. Rear cover contains a wreath of medals awarded to predecessor firms P. S. Duval and Duval & Hunter. Title: Bits of nature and some art products, in Fairmount Park, at Philadelphia, Penna
Description: Volume of compiled prints and drawings by lithographer, etcher, and artist Augustus Kollner primarily depicting landscapes of Fairmount Park and originally published in his "Bits of Nature ...," one of four volumes in his 1878 series of small folio pictures. Also contains views of Philadelphia and Bucks and Montgomery counties. Several of the prints also show park and riverscape; residences and estates; animals, including canal mules, horses, cows, and dogs; park visitors, including an African American family, children, and persons on foot and on horseback; steamboats, rowboats, and other vessels on the Schuylkill River; and rock formations. Other views show wharf workers at lunch and a cliff-side residence at North Twenty-Seventh Street near the park., Mount Pleasant Mansion was built 1761-1765 for Captain John Macpherson after the designs of Thomas Nevil in Fairmount Park, Philadelphia, Pa. Macpherson, a privateer during the Seven Years’ War, purchased the estate with profits from these operations. Free white and Black laborers, indentured servants, and at least four enslaved people of African descent, whose names are unknown, worked on the plantation. In 1779, General Benedict Arnold purchased Mount Pleasant for his wife Peggy Shippen, but they never occupied the house. In 1792, General Jonathan Williams purchased the mansion. The City of Philadelphia purchased the property from the Williams family in 1869. On behalf of the city, the Philadelphia Museum of Art restored the house in 1926., Titles include Thos. Title: David Doret collection of Centennial ephemera
Description: Collection consists of approximately one hundred items, primarily advertising ephemera, relating to the Centennial Exhibition, held in Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park in 1876 to celebrate America’s one-hundredth anniversary of independence and to showcase the strengths of the country’s industry, manufactures, agriculture, and art. Materials include circulars, price lists, advertising cards, stationery, and pamphlets for goods and services, including washboards, ironing tables, saws, springs, sewing machines, mills, mowers, reapers, horse shoes, and hotel accommodations. Other documents include souvenir view books and guidebooks for visitors, maps, a Centennial Board of Finance letterhead, a Centennial award seal, programs, and admission tickets. Several of the items contain illustrations, such as views of the Centennial buildings, and depictions of products. Some advertisements promote foreign businesses from countries, including Belgium, Russia, Great Britain, Holland, Austria, France, Germany, and Spain., Approximately seventeen of the items include manuscript annotations of dates (e.g. "11.2.76" and "Nov 9/76"), possibly made by Centennial visitors to record dates of attendance at the fair.
