Trade cards depicting specimens for cigar box labels and trimmings of George S. Harris & Sons. Shows No. 2151 "City cousin," No. 2126 "Mirth and beauty," and No. 2155 "First mate.""City cousin," depicts a young woman reclining against a bale of hay in a field. Above this scene are toiletries, perfumes, and a book of "Happy hour poems" wrapped in a ribbon. "Mirth and beauty" depicts a waist-length portrait of a young girl wearing a large plumed hat. "First mate" shows a sailor in his blue uniform at sea, gripping his straw hat in his right hand, and telescope in his left., George S. Harris opened his lithography business ca. 1847 at 119 North Fourth Street. In 1872, George Harris & Sons moved into a seven-story, "iron front" building erected for the company at 718-724 Arch Street, where they operated the largest lithographic firm in the city, with about 600 employees producing lithographic trade cards, labels for cans and cigar boxes, circulars, calendars and stamped envelopes for patrons worldwide., Not in Wainwright., Advertising text stamped on verso: Geo.
