- View showing the rectangular front facade, red-brick Roman Catholic church built 1763 and enlarged 1810-1811 (Charles Johnson, master carpenter) at 242-250 S. 4th Street. Crucifixes, arched windows and entrances, and a tablet reading "Founded 1763 Enlarged 1810" adorn the building protected by a brick wall with iron work fencing and gates. Well-dressed men and women, including two women with parasols and a mother and child, walk outside the church property. Cellar doors jut out from the brick wall and a fire hydrant is visible on the sidewalk. - View looking northwest from Fairmount showing the Fairmount Waterworks, including the engine house, millhouse, race bridge, and mound dam. Vistors stroll on the grounds near the engine house and across the promenade of the mill house. Bushes, trees, and rocks dominate the foreground. In the right, a man stands in the gazebo on the partially visible mount. On the bucolic west bank, the superintendant’s house of the Schuylkill Navigation Company stands across from the canal lock. In the river, sailboats and a rowboat travel and two teams of scullers drill near docks adjacent to the waterworks and bordering the east river bank on which two buildings stand. A twilight sky forms the horizon. - Racist caricature of an African American "’ministration man" (supporter of incumbent John Quincy Adams) aggressively chastising an African American boy for his cheers of support for the new President, Andrew Jackson. Depicts, in the left, a man attired in a blue waistcoat, white vest, red cravat, tan pants, and black slip on shoes holding a switch in his right hand and angrily grabbing the boy who has a frightened look on his face and is barefoot. The boy is dressed in patched blue pants, a green jacket with an elbow patch, a red vest and a hat made from the pro-Jackson paper "The Mercury." A sword lays beside the boy and a copy of the anti-Jackson paper "Democratic Press" lays in front of the man. In the background, cityscape is visible and a large crowd is seen celebrating Jackson’s election around a flag pole. The figures are portrayed with oversized and exaggerated features. - Description
- Certificate containing a scene showing three junior artillerists in uniform and armed with bayonets at a cannon in a field. Two of the militia men lean on the cannon as the third sits on a log in front of them. In the background, tents at the militia campsite are visible and a militia man walks past a stack of barrels. Junior Artillerists formed from the "Young Men's Democratic Society" in 1813 during the War of 1812 and helped to occupy Fort Mifflin. Geyer, was possibly Philadelphia leather dealer William B. Geyer who operated a store at South Third and Lombard streets in the 1840s., Issued to William B. Geyer for seven successive years of service in the first Regiment of Artillery first Brigade first Division P[ennsylvania] M[ilitia] on May 5, 1829. Signed by Robt.
