Title: Girard-college
Description: View of Girard College at Girard Avenue facing northwest from Corinthian Avenue including Founder's Hall and the eastern and western outbuildings. Street scene in the foreground includes an omnibus drawn by a team of six horses, a man on horseback, and a carriage. Elegantly dressed men, women, children, and couples stroll, and an African American man leans against a pole smoking a pipe. The college buildings, designed by Philadelphia architect Thomas Ustick Walter in the Greek Revival style, were constructed 1833-1847. Title: Fairmount Water-Works
Description: Leisurely view showing the Fairmount Water Works originally built between 1812 and 1822 after the designs of Philadelphia engineer Frederick Graff. Includes the engine house, mill house, pavilion on the mound dam, and Reservoir Hill. Activity pervades the view. In the foreground, a man with a sketchbook walks down a path to the lush riverbank. He passes two young men, seated, in conversation, on the ground. Across from them, another young men, lounges by a rock, with his dog. In the river, a crowded paddle boat, followed by a rowboat of men, travels in the water. In the background, other sailing vessels are visible near the Wire Bridge at Fairmount. A horse-drawn carriage and foot traffic cross the bridge in front of distant cityscape. Description: Pastoral view depicting children playing on the hillside surrounding the Wakefield mills, established by William Logan Fisher circa 1815 at Eighteenth Street and Fisher's Lane. Six children play, one with a basket over his head, in the foreground (center), while a man drives a horse-drawn cart loaded with boxes marked "hosiery" (left). Mill buildings are visible in the distance, behind which more people are frolicking on the green. A large residence is partially visible through the woods on the hill in the far distance (center). Description: Advertisement showing the heavily adorned storefront and manufactory of the umbrella and parasol business at 104 High Street, i.e., the 300 block of Market Street. Signage with the name of the proprietor and type of merchandise covers the entrance. Building adornments also include the figure of Liberty, an American eagle, and the building number. Through the open entranceway, a female clerk is visible showing an umbrella to a male patron as a female patron mills in the background.
