Description View of the opening engagement of the Civil War showing Confederate soldiers at Fort Moultrie, under the command of General P.G.T. Beauregard, manning and firing cannons at Fort Sumter in the background. Also shows the Confederate battery, Cummings Point, under a cloud of smoke from Union fire. Includes the names of the battery and forts printed below the image. Union forces under the command of Major Robert Anderson surrendered the fort on April 13, 1861.
