View from the east bank of the Schuylkill River looking south showing the Wire Suspension Bridge. View also shows a barge
in transit and mills, factories, and stables lining the banks of the river. The bridge, the first suspension bridge in the
United States, was built from 1841-1842 after the designs of engineer Charles Ellet, Jr. It was removed in 1874.
