Bust-length portrait of the poet, abolitionist, journalist, and editor of the abolitionist newspaper "Pennsylvania Freeman." Whittier, attired in a white collared shirt, a black bowtie, a waistcoat, a jacket, and an overcoat with a fur collar, faces slightly left.
