Description
Illustrated share certificate for investment in the recreational institute incorporated in 1859 that was administered by J.W. Payne, with a facility built in 1869 at 219 South Broad Street. Vignette shows a mother eagle attending to two eaglets in a bird's nest. The first floor of the facility provided a wealthy clientele with a pool in the summer and a gym in the winter. A dance academy occupied the second floor.
