Description
Stock certificate containing the Pennsylvania coat of arms; an allegorical figure representing horticulture; an arrangement of flowers; and ornamental stamp and border. Issued in 1865 and 1866 to raise funds for the construction of a hall for the society on Broad Street between Spruce and Locust Streets. The hall, designed by Philadelphia architect Samuel Sloan, was completed in 1867.

Issued to Samuel Welsh for ten shares purchased for a total of $500 on November 7, 1866. Signed by W. L. Schaffer, president; and Henry A. Drew, treasurer.
Contains blindstamp of the illustrated seal of the Horticultural Society of Pennsylvania. Illustrated with a man plunging a shovel into the dirt.
