Description
Depicts the crew of the Merrimac, a collier deliberately sunk by Richmond Pearson Hobson to barricade the Spanish fleet in Santiago Harbor during the Spanish American War of 1898. The nine crew men sit in a horse-drawn carriage as it makes its way up North Broad Street near Columbia Avenue. Includes a large crowd standing on the sidewalk and watching the procession in front of a landscaped garden along the 1700 block of North Broad Street. Military and naval parades were held during the Peace Jubilee to celebrate the end of the Spanish American War of 1898.
