View of the rocky terrain adjacent to a railroad, most likely the Mill Creek Railroad, which extended from Port Carbon, Pa. up the valley of Mill Creek to the mines. A man stands near the tracks in the righthand edge of the image.

A.M. Allen, born in Deerfield, Mass., relocated to Pottsville, Pa. ca. 1852 and set up his studio at the southwest corner of West Market and North Centre Streets. He retired from the business in 1894.
