- Commemorative, fictionalized group portrait print depicting “seventy-seven Masonic Brethren, Signers of the Declaration of American Independence and other Distinguished Members of the “Masonic Fraternity” in the Assembly Room of Independence Hall. Shows three rows of Brethren (“Distinguished Dead” and “immortal”) within the paneled wall room of the historic site being used as an exhibit gallery. At the center of the first row stands “Father of his Country” George Washington, his left hand on his hip, and wearing a masonic apron adorned with Masonic symbols. Nearest him to the left, also in masonic, but undecorated, aprons, stand Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson. Other figures in undecorated aprons in the front row include (left to right) James Buchanan; Marquise de Lafayette; Bishop William White; Andrew Jackson; and Henry Clay. Some of the men hold hats or scrolls, while others hold their hands together, or cross their arms. Other figures in the further rows include Stephen Girard, Stephen A. Douglas, and John C. Breckenridge. - Missionary Society of the Methodist Episcopal Church [certificate]
- Life membership certificate containing a vignette contrasting scenes of apocalyptic doom and religious salvation. Shows to the right an angel trumpeting salvation and wielding the Bible above a missionary preaching to a large group of Native Americans and a converted Black family kneeling and reaching toward the heavens; broken shackles and swords beside them. Opposite the scenes of salvation, a cross rises from the ground, bringing forth a river of redemption too late for the lost souls of a bejeweled "heathen" woman and a skull-headed man entangled by serpents. Behind them a temple, probably the Vatican, collapses to the ground. The Missionary Society, officially organized in New York in 1820, worked first to convert Native Americans and enslaved people before extending their missions to the Black inhabitants of Liberia in 1823., Issued to Eliza J. - Printed invitation, containing a montage of imagery, including scenes and pictorial details, from the National School of Elocution and Oratory for the commencement ceremonies for the class of 1884 on June 6, 8-10, 1884 sent to Ferdinand J. Dreer. Imagery shows a circular-shaped vignette of ships sailing on the water above a ribbon detail. Holly leaves and berries and flowers surround the ribbon. To the upper right of the scene, an oil lamp rests on a stack of books and is bordered by details of leaves and flowers. Also includes a vignette on card stock depicting an ocean view with the sun on the horizon and a ribbon that reads, "Class of ’84," pasted in the bottom right. A yellow fabric bow adorns the top of the attached illustrated card. Ferdinand J. Dreer (1812-1902) was a Philadelphia goldsmith, jeweler, and autograph collector. - Advertisement showing an exterior view of the New Excursion House, opened in 1869, and beachfront in Atlantic City, N.J. A statue of William Penn adorns the alcove above the doorway. A man enters the building near a man at the foot of the entryway. On the sidewalk, in the right, two men and a boy converse. The men wear top hats and overcoats. The boy wears a suit and a cap. Building was demolished in 1956. - Advertisement for the Philadelphia Flower Show depicting a floral exhibit. Shows a trail in a forest with trees, shrubs, and pink azalea bushes. The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society organized the first flower show in 1829, although the official Philadelphia Flower Show began in 1925 at the Commercial Museum. The show relocated to the 23rd Armory in 1965, to the Philadelphia Civic Center in 1966, and to the Pennsylvania Convention Center in 1996.
