Description
Caricature of a sailor with a ring of cannons around his waist reading "The Cheese" to represent the Union ironclad, the Monitor, mocked by the Confederates as a "cheese-box." The battle between the smaller Monitor and the larger Confederate ironclad, the Virginia, (i.e., Merrimac) ended in a stalemate in March 1862.
