Description |
View of the third edifice of the Chestnut Street Theater, erected in 1822, after the designs of William Strickland at the
location of the second building, razed by fire in 1820, on Chestnut Street above Sixth Street. Depicts couples strolling passed
the theater, built with corinthian columns with niches containing the salvaged William Rush statues of Comedy and Tragedy.
The theater, razed in 1855, was rebuilt on Chestnut Street above Twelfth Street in 1863.
