Description
Glass negative showing a group posed in the forest near Lake Hopatcong. Some in the large group of men and women sit in the grass while others stand among the trees. A woman in the back row holds a tall walking stick in her hand. The women wear long, high-necked dresses with hats while the men wear long-sleeved shirts and hats. Lake Hopatcong, the largest freshwater body in New Jersey, became a popular resort destination after rail service came to the area in 1882. By the 1940s and 1950s, it had become mostly residential.
