Arcadia caption text: Like many of the churches built in the city in the 1700s, St. Michael’s Church (the Old Lutheran Church),
completed in 1748, did not survive through the 19th century. Used as a garrison by British troops during the American Revolution,
the church, visible here a few years before its demolition in 1872, shows the signs of abandonment. Following the relocation
of the congregation in 1870, the church was razed from the 100 block of North Fifth Street.
