Physical Description
1 photographic print : gelatin silver ; 10 x 10 cm. (3.75 x 3.75 in.)
Description
Two boys in snow-covered coats stand on the frozen water of Swann Memorial Fountain looking at the camera. Covered in ice, the three statues in the fountain spurt water in background. Architect Wilson Eyre, Jr. and sculptor Alexander Stirling Calder collaborated to create the fountain monument built at the bequest of Maria Elizabeth Swann, in memory of her late husband, Wilson Cary Swann, M.D. The three sculpted figures represent the three rivers around Philadelphia: the Indian symbolizes the Delaware River, the young woman depicts the Wissahickon, and the mature woman, the Schuylkill River.
