Description |
View showing the Baptist church organized by Dr. William Staughton built 1811-1812 after the designs of Robert Mills on the
800 block of Sansom Street. Also shows two men standing in front of the church, the adjacent auction house, "Herkness Bazaar,
horses, carriages, harnesses &c" (s.e. cor. 9th and Sansom), and the foundation for the Continental Hotel (built 1857-1860).
Church reorganized as the Fifth Baptist Church in 1824.

in the late 1850s entitled "Illustrations of Philadelphia" volume 3, page 117. The scrapbooks contained approximately 120
photographs by Philadelphia painter and pioneer photographer Richards of 18th-century public, commercial, and residential
buildings in the city of Philadelphia commissioned by Poulson to document the vanishing architectural landscape.
