Description |
Three-quarter length, forward facing portrait of an African American woman seated on a chair with an ornate, wooden back.
Sitter has long, dark hair, parted in the middle, crimped, and looped behind her ears. She wears hoop earrings and a dark-colored,
long-sleeve button-down, silk dress with a lace collar and cuffs. A broach adorns her collar. She also rests her right forearm
and hand on a book which sits atop a table covered in a patterned cloth in the left of the image. She wears a ring on her
right hand and her left hand, in a slight fist, rests in her lap. Her cheeks are tinted pink. Sitter is probably a member
or acquaintance of the Dickerson Family of Philadelphia.
