Description
Textile label for the woolen mills containing a vignette surrounded by pictorial details and filigree. Vignette depicts the head of a woman partially framed by a garland of flowers. Pictorial details include banners. Todmorden Mills, originally established in 1831 as John Bancroft & Son in Media, Pa., was sold by the family in 1842 and repurchased by Joseph Bancroft in 1854. By the 1870s, it was one of the largest woolen mills in the country.
