Description
Billheads containing ornamented type and ornamental and pictorial details. Details depict a mortar and pestle captioned "Established 1797" and banners, and flourishes. Proprietors listed on the billheads include John L. Thompson, David Cowee, J.I. Thompson, G.A. Thompson, and James F. Cowee. The firm, established by Dr. Samuel Gale, Jr. in 1797, became a partnership between Gale and John L. Thompson in 1821, and reincorporated as John L. Thomspon, Sons & Co. in 1851.
