Depicts the large gunboat with one engine stack and high flying American flags on the Delaware River on Naval Day, one of many ships in the naval parade that opened the Peace Jubilee celebration of the end of the Spanish American War of 1898. Formerly named Corsair and owned by J. Pierpont Morgan, the ship was purchased by the Navy at the outbreak of the Spanish American War. The Gloucester helped to blockade the Spanish fleet in Santiago Harbor and later captured Guanico in Puerto Rico. A much smaller boat is about to pass the battleship in the foreground.
