Mary is standing with her arm around seated Caroline. Both girls are wearing the same patterned dress, but the dresses are
hand colored different colors. Very pale hand colored pink on cheeks.

Richard Davis Wood (1799-1869), the girls' father notes in his diary on May 1, 1846, "Took wife and daughters Mary and Caroline
to Langenheim's, and had their daguerreotypes taken, succeeding very well." Inside case is the poem "Watching for the Prodigal"
clipped from a newspaper.
