Description |
Contains images of the Naval Yard on League Island, an island four miles south of Philadelphia, purchased by the government
in the 1870s to accommodate larger iron ship building facilities. Includes various views of acitvity in the Naval Yard including
docked ships viewed from the river and men building and repairing ships on the dry dock. Specific ships include: the Mississippi,
Washington, St. Louis and the Tennessee. Also depicts an exterior view of the barracks, the old sea wall and the officer's
quarters.
