Description View looking east from above Ninth Street showing the Girard House hotel, built from 1851-1852 after the designs of John McArthur, Jr., at 823-835 Chestnut Street. Horse-drawn carriages are parked in front of the hotel. Also shows partial view of the Continental Hotel, also built after the designs of McArthur from 1857-1860, on the south side of the street. A street lamp with an advertisement for the Chestnut Street Theater stands in front of the Continental.
