Description |
Half-length, forward facing portrait of an unidentified white woman. Sitter has long, dark hair, parted in the middle, and
looped behind her ears. She is attired in a dark-colored, long-sleeved dress with buttons down the bodice and a white collar,
and black lace, fingerless gloves. A broach adorns her collar. Her lips and cheeks are tinted pink. She is seated and holds
a book labeled, Message and Documents 1857-8 Part 1 (i.e., Congressional documents), on her lap with her right hand. She crosses
her left arm over her right and rests her left hand on her right wrist.
