Description
Racist trade card promoting Gold Medal Coffee and depicting a caricature of an African American man wearing a sandwich board. The man is portrayed with exaggerated features and is attired in a green hat with a red band and feather, a red shirt with a white collar, blue pants, and brown shoes. A sandwich board is draped over his shoulders. The back board reads, "Gold Medal Coffee is the purest and best." He turns his head back and looks at the viewer. T.H. Butler and G.W. Earhart began manufacturing coffee as Butler, Earhart, & Co. in Columbus, Ohio in circa 1870 and produced and advertised their Gold Medal Coffee.
