Description
View of the condensing engine, originally patented by George Corliss in 1849, used to power the exhibition. The engine is propped on a platform. Also prominently shows the display of New York saw manufacturer E. M. Boynton in the background. George Pullman purchased the engine in 1880. The fair celebrated the centennial of the United States through an international exhibition of industry, agriculture, and art.

Title on negative.
Photographer's imprint printed on mount and on verso. Imprint on verso contains initials "CPC" in decorative border surmounted by date range 1776-1876.
White curved mount with rounded corners.
