Description Exterior view of the front elevation of the Japanese Commissioner's Dwelling designed by Matsuo-Ehe for the Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia. Shows the front entrance and porch, wooden lattice-work on the first floor, and wooden panels on the second floor. Also shows an ornate folding screen in the front doorway. The dwelling was used to house Japanese workers. The Centennial Exhibition celebrated the centennial of the United States through an international exhibition of industry, agriculture, and art.
