Description
Certificate awarded by the Sussex County Agricultural Society and depicting vignettes of scenes of farming. In the top, shows allegories of "Liberty," depicted as a white woman with a pole and cap, and "Prosperity," depicted as a white woman with a cornucopia full of fruits and vegetables. In the background is a factory and sailing ships. In the center, shows a large crowd of men and women spectators watching a sulky horserace; fair attendees walking the grounds; large tents and stands and American flags flying on flagpoles; and houses and trees in the background. Vignettes around the image include: sheep; a farmer with two large pigs; a cow and a bull; a horse; a man driving a horse-drawn reaper; and fowl, including chickens, geese, and turkeys. Around the border are fruits, vegetables, wheat, corn, and farm implements, including plows, a shovel, rake, ax, and hoe.
